Paid parking at Sundays Well Road will be at Zone A rates

Motorists parking on Sunday’s Well Road are going to have to pay for parking – and it is to be at Zone A rates, members of the Mullingar Kinnegad Municipal District decided at their January monthly meeting in Mullingar.

The changes will mean that motorists can park at Sunday’s well road for a maximum of two hours, but residents’ permits will be available to those living on the street.

Cllr Aoife Davitt was keen to know how many spaces would be available, explaining that that is a concern to those living on Sunday’s Well Road. She was also keen to see a disabled space provided.

Cllr Mick Dollard was confident the change would be welcomed by the residents of Auburn Terrace and elderly people living in the area who have had to contend with motorists “abandoning” cars there for the full day. He asked that the traffic wardens become proactive in that area in light of the changes.

The view of Cllr Julie McCourt was that the street should have just one or two public spaces, and that the remainder should be residents-only, as there are a lot of older people living in the area, and they have often found themselves having to park at Gaol Hill and carry their shopping from there to their own houses.

Responding to the queries raised, council official Mary Goldsberry said the council could examine if it would be possible to install a disabled parking bay.

She said that a parking meter will be installed as soon as possible, and the parking app will be updated to reflect the change.

Ms Goldsberry said she and senior engineer Pat Kavanagh had been keeping residents informed of the changes ahead.
