Cooney leads workshop on leadership and resilience
Westmeath GAA Coaching and Games notes
Westmeath Coaching and Games held the second of four scheduled workshops last Saturday week at St Loman's, Mullingar, when former Westmeath manager and current national player development lead Jack Cooney conducted a workshop on fostering leadership and resilience in players.
Over 20 coaches attended a session which incorporated theory and practical elements with the county U15 football development squad. Many thanks to Jack Cooney for the excellent workshop, our staff for organising, St. Loman's and the U15 players, and to all the coaches who attended.
The schedule of the remaining workshops is as follows:
Saturday February 22 – Barry Mullane (Current Down Senior Hurling Coach).
Topic: Practical Approaches to Skill Development in Team Sports

Topic: Innovative Training Techniques for Modern Teams - A Wall Ball Session

Coach Education
The first Introduction to Gaelic Games Course (IGGC) course kicked off this week and will run over two nights (Tuesday and Thursday) in St. Joseph's Secondary School Rochfortbridge. Another IGGC course will run on 18th and 20th of February, again in St. Joseph's. Coaching officers have been provided with the sign-up details so please contact them to enroll.
Further courses will be held across March and April and all information on IGGC and Level 1 courses have been circulated to club coaching officers.

Football rules workshops
Westmeath GAA Coaching and Games held regional workshops last week on the new football rules in Garrycastle and Shandonagh.
Our staff delivered seminars on the new rules and offered insights to coaches on how to educate players on the rules.
Further workshops will take place with each club assigned a location on a given night with the schedule as follows:
Wednesday, February 5 from 8pm to 9.30pm in Rosemount for: Rosemount, Caulry Castledaly, Moate All Whites, Tubberclair, Kilbeggan Shamrocks.
Saturday, February 8, 10am to 11.30am in The Downs for: The Downs, Multyfarnham, Mullingar Shamrocks, Milltownpass, Ballycomoyle.
Monday, February 10, 8pm to 9.30pm in the Annebrook House Hotel, Mullingar for the following clubs: St Loman’s Mullingar, St Mary’s Rochfortbridge, St Paul’s, Killucan, Coralstown/Kinnegad.
Group Team Hurling
Westmeath Schools will be in action in the Second Year Leinster Group Team competition this coming weekend.
Having claimed the Leinster title last year, the team will be away to Offaly this Friday (7th February) in Banagher at 7:00. This group will be made up predominantly of the county U15 squad with the U15 management team of Kevin O'Brien, Alan Kenna, Paddy Hassett and Barry Whelan looking after the team.
