St Kenny NS families complete month long walking fundraiser
Children and families of the St Kenny NS community completed their 60-kilometre walk challenge on the last Friday of January, around the Shandonagh GAA grounds.
The walk over the whole month of January was a fundraiser for a new relaxation room at the school.
Sue Masterson on behalf of the parents association at St Kenny NS explained that they do not have “an area for children with sensory issues or any child in the school with any issues – they have nowhere to go”.
She said they currently use part of a corridor, where there is play sand and some other toys and games, but not much, and not enough.
“So the St Kenny Parents Association are raising funds – we have €20,000 to raise and currently we have raised €14,000.
“All of that is testament to the family and the community of St Kenny National School. On that Friday night, the children were encouraged to be inventive and wear lights around their beanie hats or around their scooters or their bikes if they wanted to bring them, and there was a great turnout – lots of families came down to support the last walk as a community.
“St Kenny Parents Association would like to thank Shandonagh GAA for the use of their grounds and the brilliant parents and children that did the walk and that raised the money.”
