Columba College a cut about the rest in fundraising

Planning for the snip and shave fundraiser at Columba College Killucan, which took place on Friday, began at the end of last year. The organisers wanted to raise awareness of epilepsy among the students and wider school community.

Teacher Helena Kennedy explained: “We began with the hopes of raising €500 to support Epilepsy Ireland’s work. Once I agreed to cut my hair, John and Darren agreed to shave off their beards, which would be a look our students had never seen the lads pull off before.”

After moving dates a few times due to weddings and other occasions, they launched the fundraiser after Christmas and it gathered great momentum since that.

“We are almost at €3000, which is huge for a school of just over 300 students,” said Helena after the event on Friday. “There was an amazing build-up and excitement and the students and staff of Columba College have really supported us in our efforts.

“My own hair donation will be sent to the Little Princess Trust to make wigs for children who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment..

Helena, John and Darren, and everyone else involved expressed their gratitude to everyone who supported them, including Creative Hair Solutions,
