Reapplication on funding for bus shelters, Wallace is told

When will we see bus shelters for commuters in Rochfortbridge and Milltownpass? asked Cllr Emily Wallace at a meeting of the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad. An application for funding was turned down last year by the National Transport Authority due to funding constraints, and a reapplication will be made this month, she was told.

Pat Kavanagh, district engineer, said he had spoken that morning to the Active Travel team about bus shelters and his understanding was that they were “just on hold, not stopped”. He expects to know about funding in the next month or two. “I have made it known to them that we can commence work on bus shelters around the region in the next two to three months, if funding becomes available. I don’t think it is lost,” he said.

Cllr Wallace was assured that remedial works in Windmill, Milltownpass, on the L 10054 road will be considered as part of this year’s estimates.
