Council to assess if more traffic calming needed at Taughmon

The need for traffic calming measures at Taughmon NS was highlighted by Cllr Andrew Duncan at the February meeting of the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad.

He was told that low-cost safety work including electronic signage had been done. The council will continue to examine traffic at that location to assess if further measures are is needed.

Cllr Duncan complained that the pedestrian traffic lights at the Ardmore junction on the Dublin Road, Mullingar, are not working properly. He asked that the council examine the configuration of the lights.

In reply, Cllr Duncan was told that the council had examined this pedestrian crossing and could confirm that it is working correctly.

Cllr Duncan also asked that measures be taken to prevent cyclists travelling towards Mullingar town centre against the oncoming traffic as “a number of near misses have already occurred”.

“There are bad cyclists, as there are bad drivers and bad pedestrians,” he said. He was assured that this issue will be raised with An Garda Síochána.
