Raharney pupils doing their bit for charity and environment
The pupils of St Mary’s NS, Raharney, are collecting shoes for the ‘Our Shoes Charity Shoe Appeal’, which sends pre-loved shoes from families and schools in Ireland to in-need children in southern Africa.
They are asking families in the community to donate their pre-loved sports shoes and football boots. They can be dropped in to the school.
Pupils are also collecting waste batteries for the WEEE Ireland Schools Battery Recycling Competition 2024-2025. Recycling batteries contributes to the school’s Sustainable Development Goals and Green-Schools work, and it supports LauraLynn, Ireland’s Children’s Hospice.
To enter the Schools Battery Recycling Competition, and be in with a chance to win one of six €2,000 sports equipment vouchers, the challenge is to collect as many batteries as the pupils can and recycle them with WEEE Ireland.
“Every battery counts, so get collecting today and our school could be one of our 2024-2025 competition winners, ,” said principal, Suzanne Lynch.
“We are also fundraising for the school with the Returns Scheme. We would like the whole community to get involved and send us in as many of their bottles and cans that they can.”
