Children’s book author to attend 2025 National Alpaca Show
During her time volunteering at a neighbouring alpaca farm, Caroline Cornelissen realised she had limited knowledge of the animals, and that motivated her to dive deeper into research about alpacas.
Raised in the Maganey area of County Kildare, Caroline spent considerable time learning about alpacas before deciding to pen a book that would both educate readers and offer a lighthearted, enjoyable experience.
Illustrated by local artist Grace Conroy, the book is available for purchase online at Alpacas in Green Pastures.
All proceeds from the book will go to support the SPCA and the Animal Peace Garden in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains.
Rita Reynolds, author of Blessing the Bridge and editor of the laJole quarterly journal, praised the book: “This tender and heartwarming story exudes respect and admiration for alpacas everywhere. The conversation between the mother and her cria, Tahulla, beautifully illustrates the incredible, gentle nature of these creatures.
"This charming little book is a joy to read and share. It will encourage both children and adults to appreciate how special alpacas truly are.
Caroline will be attending the 2025 National Alpaca Show in Mullingar on March 16 where more than 100 Alpacas will compete for Supreme Champion and the industry best compete for the Crafter of the Year.
Judging this year is Stephanie Glyptis, from Weirton, West Virginia, just outside Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, an AOA certified judge since 2006. The show will also welcome a cross selection of traders from the local community so the day will have something for everyone.
This year it will feature an Alpaca themed photo competition, and the best will go forward to the Alpaca Associations of Ireland (AAI) 2026 Calendar.
Entries are invited now; accepted entries will be charged entry of €10 and €5 for all subsequent entries. Further details can be found at alpaca.ie/alpaca-online-shop.
