Silver hoard for public auction

Among the items coming up under the hammer in the Matthews Auctioneers of Kells Two-Day auction on Sunday and Monday (March 9 and 10) is a single-owner estate collection of silver.

Accumulated by the vendor over 40 years, it is now, due to retirement and downsizing, to be cleared without reserve.

The auction, divided into three parts, comprises jewellery (lots 1-699) on Sunday, and antiques and collectables (lots 700-1,187) and silver (lots 1,500-1,870) on Monday.

Auctioneer Damien Matthews said: "It's a wonderful gathering, and certainly lots for everyone, and every pocket. From the serious collector to people just starting out, there are 1,500 lots to choose from."

Public viewing is this Saturday and Sunday, 11am to 5pm in Kells, and the illustrated catalogue can be viewed online at matthewsauctionrooms.com.
