Green area in Kilbeggan to be enhanced when weather improves, council hears

Work on the green area at the Crescent junction in Kilbeggan will be carried out when the weather improves, elected members were informed at the monthly Athlone-Moate Municipal District meeting.

Raising the motion, Cllr Liam McDaniel called on the council to enhance the location to include reseeding of the grass area and the major pruning of trees.

"Flowers and shrubs, planted and maintained by the local Tidy Towns committee, were damaged beyond repair during operations and need to be replaced. The trees have become very overgrown particularly towards the east end of the green and residents in the vicinity have reduced light entering their homes because of this situation.

"Work on the Crescent junction is magnificent to see and I am of the view that work on the green area will complete this process," Cllr McDaniel said.

Responding, District Engineer, Denis Sloyan stated that the green area would be restored to its original condition when the weather improves.

"Any flowers and shrubs that were damaged during the works will be replanted," Mr Sloyan added.
