All Life Arts and Crane Bird studio come together for Atrium show
A thought-provoking exhibition titled ‘The Grass is Greener?’ launched on Thursday last, March 6, at The Atrium Space at the Westmeath County Council Buildings, runs until March 28. The display presents a collaborative effort between students from Crane Bird Studio and Art School and artists from All Life Arts, exploring the human tendency to perceive greener pastures elsewhere.
This year marks the eighth anniversary of Crane Bird Studio and Art School in Mullingar. An artist-led studio, it offer animation, creative writing, sewing and art classes, workshops, parties, field trips, stories and art sessions, and art camps designed to explore various artistic mediums and creative methods for individuals of all ages.
The exhibition delves into the notion that individuals often seek something better than their current circumstances, a mentality rooted in human nature and characterised by making judgements and comparing oneself to others.
The concept can be traced back to the poetry of Ovid (43 BC-17 AD), who wrote ‘Fertilior seges est alenis semper in agris’ (the harvest is always more fruitful in another man's fields).
By working together, the artists have created a diverse range of styles and techniques, and ‘The Grass is Greener?’ serves as a reminder of the importance of collaboration in the visual arts.
