Open theme for Delvin in 2025
The committee for the Delvin St Patrick’s Festival on Sunday March 16 would like to remind the community of the opportunities for their involvement in the event. Chairman Cllr David Jones said: “We invite local residents and organisations to contribute their ideas and support – even this week.
“The parade promises to be a great day out and the committee are seeking creative suggestions from the community to enhance the experience. Volunteers are needed too – the success of the parade relies on the dedication of volunteers and those willing to assist on the day of the event are invited to join our team. The committee are eager to involve as many members of the community as possible to ensure a memorable and enjoyable parade.”
The parade started in 1998 and continues to grow, and this year’s should be another good one. It traditionally takes place on the day before St Patrick’s Day itself, and that suits Delvin well as participants in the other local parades normally attend the Delvin as well.
The theme for the 2025 parade is open, which leaves plenty of room for creativity for those working on their floats.
The organising committee welcomed three new members this year, and Cllr Jones is delighted with the contributions of all members, who have been busy with preparations for months, and have a number of meetings this week ahead of the big day on Sunday.
As well as the parade (more floats still welcome), there is a window competition, and on the day there will be entertainment in the pubs in the evening. Floats and parade participants will assemble at Delvin Mart for a 3pm start time (roads closed from 1pm).
Cllr Jones thanked all those involved in organising the parade and the sponsors who are supporting it, including Westmeath County Council. “Their contribution makes the parade a success along with all the local businesses and community groups that contribute,” he said.
