Sammy Heaney of Lucky Day will be at Longford Ploughing.

Ballymahon hosts Longford Ploughing this year

Ireland’s largest springtime ploughing event, Longford Ploughing, is in Ballymahon this year, along the Royal Canal.

Visitors to the event on Sunday 23 March will enjoy a full menu of ploughing competitions, a trade fair and live music with from 4Degrees West, from 12 noon.

The event attracts large numbers of ploughing competitors from across Ulster, Connaught and Leinster and this year Sammy from Lucky Day Competitions will add a little excitement when she ploughs a competition plot.

Ireland’s newest ploughing star Dan Donnelly, who won the 40th European Reversible Ploughing title only three weeks ago, is a special guest.

The event offers a novel way to celebrate the spring solstice on a Sunday afternoon, and an escape to the countryside to enjoy activities like the dog show, IFA mobile pet farm, Grassmen and the traditional art of horse ploughing and loy digging.

With catering on the field, food fair, facepainting and funfair, there is lots of entertainment at Longford Ploughing.
