Native species planted in town park for National Tree Week

Westmeath County Council marked National Tree Week (March 9-16) by hosting a native tree planting event in Mullingar Town Park on Monday March 10.

The trees were donated by Paddy Mangan of Free Trees Ireland, who continue their ongoing commitment to biodiversity and environmental conservation.

Westmeath County Council biodiversity officer Chrstina Sweeney said: "National Tree Week highlights the importance of trees in improving air quality, supporting wildlife and combating climate change. Planting native trees, like the one at Mullingar Town Park, helps preserve Ireland’s biodiversity, national heritage and strengthens local ecosystems."

The council thanked Paddy and Free Trees Ireland for their contribution and encourage the public to take part in tree planting initiatives.
