‘An evening to celebrate students’ achievements’
“We are honoured in Loreto College Mullingar to have welcomed both past and present students to our annual awards ceremony held in our school on Friday March 7. This is an evening where we get to celebrate our students’ fantastic achievements from the year gone by.”
Principal Ms Olivia Callaghan commenced proceedings welcoming everyone, and a beautifully-played traditional music piece performed by Katie Glennon and Cara Ledwith followed.
The Leaving Certificate class of 2024 were the first students honoured on the evening; on their final day in school last May, award recipients were presented with beautiful perpetual trophies, which were on display on the night.
Ms Callaghan said the Loreto College community were delighted to be able to honour the young women in the presence of their families, and to reward them with permanent mementos in recognition of their achievements in winning these prestigious awards.
In addition to the usual Leaving Certificate department awards, there were three new presentations: Maths Student of the Year, Irish Student of the Year, and English Student of the Year.
After awarding these recipients, the audience were treated to an outstanding rendition of Tarantella, performed by deputy head girl, Alison Keane, on the cello.
The evening then moved on to the Junior Cycle Students of 2023 and 2024 to honour their achievements. Academic excellence is an accolade all at Loreto College pride themselves on and it was a great pleasure to present students with token to recognise and celebrate their academic achievements in their Junior Cycle Examination results.
They also took the opportunity to formally recognise the Third Year Student of the Year 2024 in the presence of her family and wider school community.
Students from first, second and fifth years of 2023/2024 received Letters of Commendation from the school principal on their outstanding house examination results.
Ms Callaghan said: “It is important for us as a school community to recognise the hard work and dedication to academic endeavours of our students. The students honoured in this ceremony have reaped the rewards of their dedication to their studies and academic excellence by featuring in the top 10% of their group in their summer exams.”
Leaving Certificate student Robyn Bates, accompanied on the piano by teacher Laura Cahill, performed At Last I See the Light, which captivated the audience.
The last part of the event formally recognised and celebrated the Leaving Certificate results earned by the Class of 2024. “The girls’ hard work and tireless dedication to their studies has earned them distinguished examination results, and we are very proud of them all. We wish the girls the very best in their studies and future endeavours.”
