Celebrating #ETBWeek 2025: A National Celebration of Education and Training
Longford and Westmeath Education and Training Board (LWETB) is taking part in #ETBWeek 2025, a national celebration of Ireland’s 16 ETBs, running till Friday, March 28.
As the state provider of education and training here, LWETB delivers a wide range of services to support learners of all ages, including primary and post-primary education, apprenticeships, adult education, youth services, Music Generation programmes, and community education initiatives.
Working with local businesses, industries, and community groups, LWETB plays a crucial role in supporting economic development and lifelong learning in the region.
#ETBWeek 2025 in LWETB opened with the LWETB awards ceremony last Friday evening at Ballymahon Vocational School. The awards recognise the academic achievements of students in both Junior and Senior Cycle in 2024.
Throughout the week, students, learners, and staff from LWETB schools and centres are taking part in various activities, including table quizzes, networking events, and other initiatives designed to foster collaboration, learning, and celebration of shared values.
One of the highlights of #ETBWeek 2025 is the LWETB Photo Competition, which invites participants to capture and share images that reflect the values of Care, Respect, Equality, Excellence in Education, and Community. The competition is open exclusively to LWETB students, learners, and staff, allowing them to showcase their understanding of those values.
#ETBWeek is an opportunity to recognise the essential work carried out by ETBs nationwide. With a presence in every county, ETBs support thousands of students and learners each year, providing pathways to success through inclusive, learner-centred education and training programmes.
They work closely with local employers, industries, and communities to ensure education and training remain responsive to Ireland’s evolving needs.
Brian Higgins, chief executive (acting) of LWETB, said: “ETB Week is an opportunity to recognise the impact of our work across all areas of education, training, and community services. It highlights the dedication of our staff, the achievements of our learners, and the vital role ETBs play in shaping the future.”
Emmett Kenny, LWETB ethos co-ordinator and principal (acting) of Mullingar Community College, added: “ETB Week is a time to celebrate the vibrant learning community within LWETB. The events we have for the week showcase the academic and creative achievements of our learners and highlight the values that bind us together. It is a fantastic opportunity for our students, learners and staff to connect, share experiences and inspire one another.”
