Credit Union Schools Quiz

The primary schools quiz is one of the biggest events in the Credit Union calendar, and it is an event very much in the spirit of the credit union movement and its role in communities. It’s about promoting education and engagement within local communities, and North Midlands Credit Union staff are proud that it is such a fixture for so many.

A spokesperson for the NMCU said: “It was just fantastic to have our schools quiz back for another year and to also see the huge turnout of students, parents and teachers.

“We have more than 70 schools within the common bond and with space constraints in venues, much like last year, we deemed it necessary to hold two quizzes over two nights.

“Our first quiz was held in The Mall, Longford on Friday February 7, and the second quiz was on Monday February 10 in the Mullingar Park Hotel.

“We had a total of 33 schools attend the quiz in the Mullingar Park Hotel, made up of 65 teams with 260 students taking part. The quiz was of an exceptionally high standard, and all schools performed remarkably well. There were two categories – Competition A for students under 11 years of age, and Competition B for students under 13 years of age.”

The winners of Competition A, was Gaelscoil an Mhuilinn, second place was Scoil Chroí Naofa, Rochfortbridge, and in joint third place were St Kenny NS and St Patrick’s NS, Ballinagore.

In Competition B, Scoil Chroí Naofa, Rochfortbridge was first, St Mary’s NS, Raharney, second, and Scoil Phadraig NS, Milltown, third.

Twenty two Longford schools took part on February 7, 38 teams and 152 students taking part.

Fermoyle NS won Competition A, second place was St Mel’s NS, Longford, and third was St Mary’s NS, Edgeworthstown.

In Competition B, Stonepark NS, was first, second was Melview NS, and third was Colehill NS.

The winners of Competition A and B in both quizzes progress to the next round, representing North Midlands Credit Union in the hope of making it to the all-Ireland national final.

“Big thanks to all the parents and teachers for their continued support.”

Thanks also to the staff of North Midlands Credit Union for making this event such a success.”
