Small group put in great team effort

Kilbeggan Players production of Blithe Spirit

The Kilbeggan Players production of Noel Coward’s hilarious three act comedy, Blithe Spirit, in St James’s Hall received a rousing reception on both Friday and Saturday nights. The show was sold out on Friday night and as word got around about how good it was, ticket sales soared for Saturday night.

“It went brilliantly, and everyone was pleased with themselves and the great reception from the audience – we couldn’t have asked for more”, said 23-year-Seoidin Rochford, who produced and directed the performances.

She revealed that a lot of people approached them after the show asking if they would put it on again, another weekend, and maybe take it to other venues such as Esker Arts in Tullamore or Tuar Ard in Moate.

“People were very complimentary about the set and the acting and how professional it was, and asked if we would take it on tour. That is something we will have to think about because it is a big commitment. It might not be for now, but maybe for the future, as an extension of this project,” Seoidin said.

The local crew and cast were helped on Friday night by two volunteers from Rahan Drama group – husband and wife, Jim and Edel Cunningham, and on Saturday night by James McHugh, a volunteer from Rahugh Drama group. They joined Katie Colton from Kilbeggan Players as stage-hands. Terence Casey helped with the sound.

“We are a small group, and it was a real team effort, but that was a blessing in that we all got to learn different tasks,” Seoidin said. “It definitely created a stir in the community over the weekend,” she added, and said that they hope this stir will entice more members of the community to get involved.
