As Darragh Did walk on Royal Canal at Mullingar this week

The charity ‘As Darragh Did’ have announced their second ‘Walking the Walk’ fundraising event for this Saturday, April 12. This 30km walk along the Royal Canal (Mullingar to Thomastown return) will raise funds for community groups and organisations across Ireland in memory of Darragh McGinley.

Founder of As Darragh Did, Andrew McGinley, is inviting people to get involved in any way they can: “Darragh always said if you want to talk the talk, you need to walk the walk. This event has been something I’ve wanted to do to for a while, celebrating Darragh, Conor and Carla.

"I hope you will join me in honouring their memory by taking part in any way you can, walking with me for all 30km, or just a portion of the journey, to raise funds for As Darragh Did and the groups we support across Ireland.”

Event Details

The 30km walk is on April 12 along the Royal Canal, starting and finishing in Mullingar.

Participants are welcome to complete the full walk, a portion of the walk, or a walk in their local community to mark the occasion.

The event provides an opportunity for communities to come together and support the work of As Darragh Did, and the growing number of community groups and clubs the charity helps fund across the country.

About As Darragh Did

As Darragh Did was created in memory of Darragh McGinley, who died in January 2020, alongside his brother Conor and sister Carla. Father of Darragh, Conor and Carla, Andrew McGinley, founded three projects to continue their memories.

Conor’s Clips is a project dedicated to Conor’s love of film, creativity and capturing everyday life though a dedicated YouTube channel.

Snowman for Carla is an annual colouring competition for young artists to showcase their skills, as Carla loved all things art.

As Darragh Did was founded to continue the Darragh’s legacy of community involvement. Darragh was involved in and participated in everything, football, hurling, soccer, athletics, drama…

Every club and group Darragh participated with was managed by volunteers and all were seeking funding for various projects.

The mission of As Darragh Did is to provide funding for clubs, groups and societies across the country aiming to increase participation and get people involved… as Darragh did.
