Speed survey for Kilbeggan to M6 road

Speed on the road into Kilbeggan from the M6 roundabout is an ongoing concern, Cllr Liam McDaniel has claimed.

He was addressing a meeting of the Athlone Moate Municipal District, during which he called on the local authority to implement speed reduction and traffic calming measures on the road.

"As the new primary care centre is now open in Kilbeggan, traffic flow along this road has increased and incoming speed from the M6 roundabout is a major issue of concern.

"There are a number of residences along the road, many with children, and there is a danger that a serious incident could occur. Is it possible that the district could organise for a speed survey to be conducted along the road so we can gauge what measures need to be implemented in the interest of public road safety," Cllr McDaniel said.

Cllr Tom Farrell noted that "one of the busiest filling stations" in the county was located on the road.

Responding, district manager, Willie Ryan, stated that the Municipal District Office would arrange for a speed survey to be conducted on the route.

"The district will appraise the speed survey findings and consider appropriate measures to address the issue if speeding is confirmed," Mr Ryan said.
