Mullingar 4 All hosts Palestinian Tatreez workshop
Tatreez is a form of Palestinian embroidery, and on Good Friday, April 18, there will be an opportunity to start learning the craft at a workshop hosted by Mullingar 4 All at The Refill Mill on Austin Friars Street.
Tatreez isn’t just embroidery: it is also a way to tell stories and is a symbol of Palestinian heritage and resistance.
The workshop will be conducted by Wafa Abushark, a Palestinian lady who regularly does these workshops in Navan.
Abushark learned how to do Tatreez when she was 12 years old at school in Palestine. Her mother encouraged her to take the lessons seriously, and she hopes to keep the tradition alive by teaching it in workshops.
Mullingar 4 All is hoping to do a series of different workshops this year. The group held a crochet workshop for International Women’s Day, attended by many women from the Ukrainian Community, hosted by Mullingar 4 All volunteer Niamh Bonner. The ladies crocheted hearts in the Ukraine flag colours.
If anyone would like to be part of the tatreez workshop, email: Mullingar4all@gmail.com. Materials will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring their own materials as there is a limited quantity available.
