The Valley to take centre stage with new comedy drama in Delvin
Inspired by local talent and community spirit, Delvin’s amateur group brings laughter, secrets, and heart to the stage in Delvin Hall.
Delvin’s community drama group, The Valley, is back with a brand new two-act comedy drama, 'What’s in the Air', on 25th and 26th April. Set during a chaotic karaoke night in a rural Irish pub, the play is full of laughs, secrets, and small-town tensions, where even the simplest song can uncover hidden truths
Named after the village nestled in a beautiful green valley, with a active committee as chairperson Feilim O'Neil and secretary, Carmel Moran, the group also proudly pays tribute to the works of the local literary figure Brinsley MacNamara.
Originally formed in 2023, The Valley first performed in the Drama Lounge in Mary Gaffney’s pub, testing their talents with a sketch night titled 'Bits and Pieces'.
That effort sparked confidence and community pride, leading to this full-scale production with cast Carmel Moran, David T Bright, Majella Hayden, Tessa Fleming, Michael Murphy, Feilim O’Neill, David Jones, Paul Casserly, Claire Kenny, Lorraine Ledwith, Lyndsey Delaney, Declan McCann, Catherine O’Farrell, Trisha McGrath, and Mick Kenny. ‘What’s in the Air’, originally written by Mick Roban in 2015, now adapted by Colette Lynch for The Valley, explores the culture clash between city newcomers and rural locals in 1986 Ireland.
The 15-strong cast, made up of performers from Delvin and surrounding areas, have rehearsed tirelessly, guided by director Mick Roban, artistic director Colette Lynch, with a backstage crew including Patricia Royane, Margaret M Casserly, Joan Powell, and Paula Brady. Tickets are on sale at Leavy’s Post Office and Mary Gaffney’s pub, the group's sponsor. A limited number will be at the door.
