1428 Club
The 1428 Club is a busy active retirement club with plenty of activities on site. We are open 9am-5pm, Monday-Thursday, close at lunchtime on Fridays. We have coffee mornings, fun bingo, cookery, advocacy, it, exercises, Gaeilge, quilters, CHIME, foot care clinic, lots of chat and laughter where many friendships start.
Go for Life’
Exercises to help you get into your stride for summer, non-strenuous exercise for older persons on Wednesdays at 10-11am, great health benefits and the social aspect. Give them a try.
Cookery Sessions
Good wholesome food cooked and brought home, lots of information given. Everyone gets a sample of what’s on the menu that day. Cookery sessions are ongoing and popular on Wednesdays at 11am.
Labhar Gaeilge Linn
Would you like to converse in your native language, Gaeilge. Re-awakening the phrases and words that are lying dormant in the back of your head is popular. Conversational Irish group every Wednesday at 1.30pm, learning new words and phrases as Gaeilge in a fun, helpful, non-judgemental and enjoyable atmosphere, with lots of chat and laughter. Come along and give it a try; you know more than you think.
Quilters Mullingar
Group of Quilters here on an ongoing basis in the club on Wednesdays at 7- 0pm.
Computer help
Do you need help working on your PC, laptop tablet/iPad, smartphone? IT tutoring Mondays to Thursdays, call and let us know what the problem is. One to one basis available, book in advance, 044 93 84290 or call in to chat to us about a problem.
SAS Monitored Alarms
SAS Monitored Alarms are free to anyone over 65 and the first year monitoring is also free (there is a fee for sim card service in GSM and digital models). We recommend that all older people avail of this service. Call us on 044 93 84290 if you want to know more about them or make an application.
Scam calls
Beware of scam calls, texts and fake house callers. Be extra careful about sophisticated scams. Scam calls are getting more sophisticated, but banks, tax office, HSE, Revenue, garda, Amazon, will not text you or call you and ask you for any passwords or PINs. Be aware of text messages from what look like legitimate companies. Always ring the company/service first before you act. Fake door-to-door callers may come calling on you. Be vigilant and never let them gain access to your home unless you are certain of who they are. Don’t be afraid to ask for ID.
Repairs and alterations
You might see an item of clothing in the wardrobe suitable for spring or summer, you may find clothes that need altering. Also are you looking at changing curtains, cushions for summer but discover they are in need of altering? Talk to dressmaker Ewa on Monday mornings at 10.30pm. A staff member can also help you. If you leave items with instructions, they will relay your message to Ewa.
Dun Na Sí
Day trip to Dun Na Sí on Wednesday 30 April. See all the sites on the parkland and then have a meal or refreshments in one of the fine restaurants local to the Heritage Park and Museum.
Other trips: 29 May-Bloom; 18 June Moyvalley and Lullymore Heritage Park; 16 July Malahide Castle and Gardens; Knock Shrine other day trips are being worked on at the moment, to be announced later. Members are just home from a great short spring break in Westport.
Hearing and foot clinics
Please book for the April CHIME clinic, Friday 25th, to secure a place. There is a little increase in purchasing batteries, now €3. Next foot clinic is on Friday May 2.
Raffle
We had an Easter raffle and celebrations, and the winners were Patrick Callaghan, Mary Lynam, Bridgid Lennon, Margaret Foley and Noréne Taaffe.
