St Michael's pupils help Tanzania poor

Students from St Michael’s National School in Castletown Geoghegan took part in their annual fundraiser for Tanzanian Heavenly Homes, last Friday week, April 11.

The school has been supporting Tanzanian Heavenly Homes for many years, to help purchase a plot of land in Tanzania.

Students from all different classes came together to help put it together from Monday to Thursday of week before their Easter break, and on the Friday the school opened to the public for the fundraiser.

Aisling Morgan, a teacher at St Michael’s, said: “We have all got to know John over the years; he has come in and showed the children pictures of all the work they do, and we even had some transition year students join him on his travels.”

“It was all totally the children’s doing, they made posters, set it up, and ran it, completely on their own. They brought in the toy donations and did all the selling.”

“Every year we do a fundraiser, and it’s up to the children to choose which local charity they want to support. They are very much aware of Tanzanian Heavenly Homes, and it’s a common organisation that we all support now. We even have a piece of land named St Michael’s out in Tanzania.”
