All roads lead to – and one road leads from – Shandonagh GAA for Lions Club Summer Cycle
All roads will lead to – and one road leads from – Shandonagh GAA Centre on bank holiday Monday, May 5, when the popular Lions Club Summer Cycle take place.
Registration begins at 8am and the start time is 9am. The 90km event will interest cyclists preparing for the various sportives over the summer months, and the 40km route, while a little more leisurely, is a great opportunity to begin a summer adventure.
The route for the 90km goes towards Athlone via Ballymore and out to Corr Cross, where the cyclists take a left turn to Mount Temple and head to Dun Na Sí at Moate for the food stop.
After refreshments cyclists take the road to Kilbeggan, Tyrrellspass and on to Rochfortbridge, taking a left turn back to Mullingar and out to Shandonagh GAA Centre, where refreshments will be available.
The 40km route approaches the Old Rail Trail Greenway at Cleaboy and goes to Streamstown where snacks tea and coffee will be served at Jack’s Stop Coffee shop.
After a short break the cyclists will return on the greenway to Shandonagh.
The routes will be clearly marked and stewards will be on hand to give directions.
The organisers say: “We look forward to a great day’s enjoyment with good fun and camaraderie all in the interest of providing support and respite for families and individuals living with special needs and autism.”
They issue an invitation to everyone to come out for a great experience in the first days of summer.
