Council to draw up plan for Slevin's Lake

Westmeath County Council has the intention of developing the Slevin’s Lake area in the future, director of services, Deirdre Reilly revealed at the most recent meeting of the Mullingar Kinnegad Municipal District.

No detail has been given but Ms Reilly said it is intended that it should be one of the council’s Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure (ORI) projects going forward.

Ms Reilly’s comments came during discussion of a query raised by Cllr Emily Wallace asking that the district provide parking or a safe pull-in area at the lake access along the R394 Mullingar/Castlepollard Road.

The official written response provided to Cllr Wallace stated that the district engineer has met with local landowners and Coillte regarding access and parking along this area.

“A design is being prepared,” the response concluded.

Ms Reilly said that she did not believe the council could put a short term measure in place there. “But we have a long-term potential plan for that area.”
