Devine concern about 'car rallies' at Lough Lene

A claim that there are “almost nightly car rallies” at the car park at Lough Lene was made by Cllr Alfie Devine at the April meeting of the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad.

Cllr Devine was seeking an update on the land acquisition and timeline for completion of the footpath to Lough Lene. He also wanted the bollards at the car park adjusted to prevent the car assemblies.

The written response stated that the district is currently in contact with the landowner regarding the land required to complete the walkway and has applied for funding under the 2025 Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure (ORI) scheme.

It added that the district is also examining possible solutions to prevent anti-social behaviour in the car park.

Director of services, Deirdre Reilly, stated that it was probably going to be 2026 before the plans could be followed through. It would likely take three or four months before they were notified on the outcome of their ORI application.
