Applications open for train drivers in Athlone

Iarnród Éireann has announced a new recruitment drive for train drivers, with Athlone among the locations for which applications are now being sought.

Other locations included in the 2024 Driver Campaign are Dublin, Ballina, Cork, Galway, Limerick, Mallow, Sligo, Waterford, and Westport.

The online system for applications will remain open until Monday, September 23 at 1pm. The recruitment process will involve several stages, including face-to-face assessments, interviews and medical checks.

Candidates must be willing to work on a shift rota basis, with some weekend work. They must also be aged 20 years or older.

Iarnród Éireann said it has “welcomed over 200 new Trainee Drivers into our organisation over the past number of years.”

Successful candidates will develop full operational knowledge prior to qualification as part of the Train Driver Training programme.

Other benefits associated with the role include “a salary scale that can reach a maximum of €65k per annum” and “scope to continue on to future roles in supervisory and management positions”, in addition to company pension, income continuance and welfare schemes.
