Deep sadness at death of Mary O'Rourke

The death has been announced of Mary O'Rourke.

The former Minister, TD and Senator passed away this afternoon at the age of 87.

In a post on his Facebook page, her son, Aengus, a local councillor, said:

"It is with great personal sadness and with a very heavy heart that I share with you the news that my mother Mary passed away peacefully this afternoon. May she Rest In Peace."

Probably the greatest political figure in the history of Westmeath, the late Mary O'Rourke leaves a huge political legacy in her home town.
