Westmeath ICA Federation
On Tuesday October 1, the Westmeath Federation of the ICA held their first meeting of the season. Mullingar Guild was the host and four guilds were represented. Sympathies were expressed to the families of Kathleen Brady, Mullingar Guild, Kathleen Bracken on the death of her son, Horseleap Streamstown Guild, Celie White on the death of her sister, Castlepollard Guild, and Angela O’Connor on the death of her brother, Mullingar Guild.
The annual ACWW walk was held in Fore during the summer. We had an interesting video on the Seven Wonders or Fore and its history. €130 was collected for the ACWW.
Federation members visited Wicklow Gaol and Kilmacurragh Gardens during the summer, on an enjoyable tour. They found the history of the Gaol fascinating; they had a guided tour of the gardens – they are well worth visiting.
The guilds were busy during the summer and Ballinea Brotenstown increased their membership. They visited the museum in Henritta Street and the GPO. They have purchased activator poles, pickle ball paddles, and yoga mats. They are having classes with the activator pPoles at present. They have a visit to the Guinness Storehouse planned, and some craft classes.
Horseleap Streamstown have just returned from a trip to Sligo. They also had a day trip to Knock and had a class in making willow baskets. They also have purchased activator poles, for all guild members to use when out walking. They have planned chair exercise classes and crocheting classes.
Mullingar Guild had a stand at the local agricultural show. They made mocktails. They plan a trip to Athlone, the Hodson Bay Hotel and Clonmacnoise.
Castlepollard had an enjoyable trip to Killarney. Members are attending a first aid course and have planned tin whistle classes and drama.
The competition was for a harvest platter, Ballinea Brotenstown Guild won (above). Kathleen Daly, Gemma Gavigan and Liz Gavigan.
