‘Unbelievable’ speed levels a worry for Multyfarnham

The speed of motorists passing St Cremin’s NS in Multyfarnham is “unbelievable”, Cllr Alfie Devine told officials at the September meeting of the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad.

Cllr Devine made his comments as he asked if speed ramps could be installed on the roads leading into Multyfarnham, on the St Cremin’s NS road and near the entrance to Cois Abhainn to allow safe entry and exit for people in that estate and to slow down incoming traffic on both roads which is, he said, “a major issue”.

The response from the council executive stated that traffic calming schemes for all towns and villages outside main urban centres, where warranted, will be provided “on a prioritised and sequential basis over time” and in accordance with the district’s traffic calming policy.

“A traffic calming scheme for Multyfarnham can be further considered within this context,” the reply concluded.

Cllr Devine wasn’t satisfied, and asked if it would be possible to have some ramps installed this year, but director of services Deirdre Reilly responded that it might be possible to do the work next year as a low-cost safety scheme.
