N4 upgrade project making progress
Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) is expected to commence its planning design and environmental evaluation phase (phase 3) on the N4 Mullingar to Longford project by the end of this year or early 2025.
In a statement provided to Deputy Robert Troy following a parliamentary question on the progress of the project, TII said the project is currently at phase two (Options Selection) of its Project Management Guidelines and this phase is expected to be completed in Q4 of 2024.
“A grant allocation of €1,440,000 was provided to progress the project during 2024,” the statement read.
Minister for Transport, Eamon Ryan, TD, in response to Deputy Troy’s question on October 8, said “the delivery programme for this project will be kept under review for 2025 and considered in terms of the overall funding envelope available for the national roads programme”.
Submissions for the third public consultation closed in August, allowing the project team to review feedback.
Environmental specialists have also been on site undertaking ecology surveys within the Emerging Preferred Route Corridor.
The findings of those surveys will help inform the further development of the project as it moves towards Phase 3.
