Trunk or Treat at The Downs adds Boogie Bingo

The popular Trunk or Treat fundraiser returned to The Downs for the Sunday of the Halloween long weekend again this year, and it lived up (died down?) to the spooky reputation it has quickly built up.

Carly Kelly from the organising committee told the Westmeath Examiner about it: “It is a fundraiser for our playground – which was installed in February – and we are responsible for the maintenance and insurance of it for the next five years, when Westmeath County Council will take it in charge.

“We are here today with our sponsors, JA Shaw and Co and McNamee Tyres, Fiona and JJ, at our annual, now at this stage, Trunk or Treat fundraiser. We have a new aspect to it this year, Boogie Bingo. We have a company who come in and do a spooktacular Boogie Bingo night, which is with music and fun and laughter and family friendly events.”

The new playground at The Downs is a community facility, available to anybody, and the group who oversaw the fundraising and installation would like everybody to use it and enjoy it.

It’s also an inclusive playground, which means there are pieces of equipment for anyone with mobility issues. “We also have an outdoor gym, if that takes your fancy. We have a cross trainer, a bike and some different straps for anybody who’s interested in doing a bit of a workout,” said Carly. “So first and foremost, I’d like to thank the committee and all the ladies involved in it. It’s predominantly a woman’s committee and there are several members. I’d also like to thank people who aren’t on the committee, but are always here to help out and give a hand, and that’s usually the women in The Downs as well. And I’d like to thank anybody who has donated raffle prizes, spot prizes and obviously our main sponsors as well.”
