TD's summer barbecue raises over €7,000 for NW Hospice

The North Westmeath Hospice received a donation of €7,240 from Deputy Robert Troy this week. The money was raised during the summer at Deputy Troy’s annual charity barbecue.

The event, which was held in August this year, raises money every year for a local charity with over €40.000 raised so far for worthy causes.

A cheque was formally presented to the charity this week and chairperson of the North Westmeath Hospice Teresa Collentine outlined what the money would be used for.

“It is just fantastic to receive this money from Deputy Troy and we would like to thank him for all of his support. This much needed donation will go towards the upgrade of our suites at the hospital and at the Camillians in Killucan. Ensuring the suites are as comfortable as possible for our patients and families is of utmost importance as we strive to provide them with as much comfort as possible during their end-of-life care.”

Deputy Troy said: “ I am delighted to be in a position to hand over this donation to the North Westmeath Hospice. The service our hospice provides is invaluable. They have helped and comforted so many families across Mullingar and north Westmeath in their most difficult hour.

"This year’s event was a huge success, but it would not have been possible without the Hospice volunteers and the local businesses that sponsored the food and beverages. I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank Wholesome Kitchen, Colin Dolan, Mullingar Equestrian, Wines Direct, Kepak Meats, Eamon McGowan, and Billy Collentine."
