Address of Recognition for Mullingar Town Band
Mullingar Town Band have been officially recognised for their contributions to the community and achievements on the national and international stage. The ceremony, hosted by the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad and Mullingar mayor, Cllr Ken Glynn, was an acknowledgment of the dedication, hard work, and representation of Mullingar Town Band members.
Cllr Glynn, who initiated the address of recognition, praised the band for their achievements: “One of the first things I did as mayor was to nominate Mullingar Town Band for the address of recognition, as they won the National Marching Bands Championship, and because I do feel that they provide a great service to the community.
“They have so many young boys and girls involved, and they represent Mullingar and Westmeath, and they wear the green jersey as well for Ireland on the international stage. They’ve done us proud locally and nationally and internationally, and that was the reason I proposed them.”
He acknowledged the band’s leadership team, including Kim, Hubie, and Patricia, for their efforts in maintaining an institution that has touched the lives of many families in Mullingar over many years.
Kim Magee, director of the band, said: “We want to say a huge thanks to Westmeath County Council and to Mayor Ken Glynn for nominating us. We’re busy at the moment, but this is a great opportunity to stop, sit down, and be recognised for all the hard work.”
Kim said the recognition was particularly meaningful for the younger members of the band, who invest countless hours honing their craft. “For the kids to hear this, it’s important for them. It motivates them to keep going,” she said.
Over the summer, band members dedicated weeks to rehearsals in preparation for the All-Ireland Championships and a trip to Germany.
Kim thanked them, and the parents, who are a vital part of the band, providing constant support and adjusting to last-minute changes for rehearsals, all while balancing school exams and other commitments. Mullingar Town Band are always busy and their plans include a trip to the United States in July 2026.
“The countdown has started,” Kim said.
As they gear up for a busy Christmas season, they are preparing for performances at Center Parcs and other local events, including their concert at Bloomfield House Hotel on December 7 (see separate story).
