Santa adds sparkle to Friday night in Castletown Geoghegan
A large crowd of young and old attended the annual lighting of the Christmas tree in Castletown Geoghegan on Friday night.
Last year it was decided to form a Lighting Committee whose aim would be to add some sparkle to the village for Christmas. By running a social dancing event every two months for the last year, enough funds have been raised to get the project off the ground and hopefully more will be added on each year.
Santa arrived on Friday night in a fantastically decorated open-top car, provided by James Dalton Wedding Cars. A beautifully lit and decorated jeep, provided by Frankie Wright Adventure Centre, loudly heralded the approach of Santa while three dancing elves delighted the enthusiastic young audience.
Santa greeted the children from the gig-rig, provided by John Ruane Transport. He urged them all to be good and to stay off the naughty list and he would return again on Christmas Eve.
Because of the large number of little ones anxious to have a wee word in his ear, Santa was getting it hard to leave. The Elves came to his rescue and escorted him back to his luxury chariot amid loud cheers and bell ringing.
And so Santa returns to the North Pole to continue his preparations for Christmas and to keep his promise to all the little girls and boys to return on Christmas Eve with their toys and presents.
Before he left, he whispered that he would be back next year to visit us all.
