Chess success for St Anne's National School

The young chess masters at St Anne’s NS in Tyrrellspass proved their skill when they took part in a series of online competitions this month.

Their involvement was part of Lá Ficheall and second, third and fourth class pupils made up the Buds team who logged in together to battle teams from all across Ireland. They came fourth in the country out of 73 schools.

The fifth and sixth class team members logged in as Masters and came 22nd out of 102 schools across the country, on November 13. Chess began in the school three years ago, headed by Ms Murphy, with one class to see if they would learn a new game and work together to improve their skills. That was clearly the outcome, parents and siblings were encouraged to play as well. The pupils and teachers thanked Ficheall.ie Primary Teachers Promoting Chess for organising the event.
