Man accused of robbing another man in Mullingar to go on trial at Circuit Court

A man in his 20s accused of robbing another man of a cache of personal items in the middle of Mullingar is to stand trial, a court has been told.

Jake Finney (21) of 75 Farran, Mullingar, Westmeath was handed a book of evidence at last week’s sitting of Mullingar District Court arising out of an incident on August 23, 2021.

As a consequence of that, Mr Finney was charged with robbing a man of a brown Armani wallet, cash, together with a driving licence, Permanent TSB cards as well as a set of car and house keys at Patrick Street, Mullingar, Westmeath.

Garda Pat Walsh gave evidence of having served the book of evidence on Mr Finney prior to the commencement of court last Thursday.

Sgt Paul McNally said the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had consented for Mr Finney to be sent forward for trial to the sittings of Mullingar Circuit Criminal Court next year to face the solitary robbery charge that was contained in the book of evidence.

Presiding, Judge Bernadette Owens followed that up by giving Mr Finney N alibi warning, advising him of his requirement to notify the State within 14 days should he wish to rely on any alibi evidence during the course of his trial.

Mr Finney was then remanded on bail to a sitting of Mullingar Circuit Criminal Court on March 6, 2025.
