Streete Parish Parks Christmas Market was a major success on Sunday week last, December 8, when more than 50 vendors were present as guests enjoyed live music, and visits to see Santa in his gingerbread theme grotto.
Planning for the event, organised by Mary O’Hara, Lisa McGrath, Sinéad Gogan, Karman O’Brien, Denise Tighe, started during the summer, after last year’s Streete Christmas market success.
The morning of the market, the community faced an unexpected challenge when the electricity went out thanks to Storm Darragh, and vendors and visitors were momentarily thrown off course, but thanks to generators being set up and quick thinking, the market was off to a flying start and the electricity came back later in the day.
Despite the disruption, the market was as vibrant as ever. “It’s brilliant,” said one visitor. “The stalls are beautiful the atmosphere is just amazing. It’s busy, and the energy is great!”
The market had a mix of homemade products and showcased an array of handcrafted goods. “We always try to keep everything home made. It’s part of what makes this place special,” one of the organisers told the Westmeath Examiner.
The many market stalls offered high-quality handmade crafts, beautifully presented at reasonable prices, making it easy to find gifts or keepsakes.
A seating area gave visitors a chance to enjoy seasonal treats while soaking up the atmosphere, as the magical voices of the pupils from Lismacaffrey NS rang out, singing the joys of Christmas.
Delicious food, popcorn, hot chocolate, and more added to the festive spirit – Streete Handmade Christmas Market is definitely one to put on your list for next year.
