Minister Burke ‘immensely proud’ of Westmeath schools at BTYSE competition

The Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Peter Burke TD, has said he is “immensely proud” of the outstanding projects from local schools at this year’s BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition.

After visiting the RDS on Wednesday, January 8, Minister Burke said:

“I was absolutely blown away by the creativity, ingenuity, and quality of projects on display by local schools at this year’s BTYSE.

“There were 40 projects on display from schools in Westmeath, and only the much larger counties of Cork and Dublin had more, which is a strong reflection of the high level of education being offered locally and our passion for STEM subjects.

“I got a great sense of the compassion our young people have through their projects: one developed a better way to manage oil spills using magnetic particles, another analysed stress levels among GAA players, and more focused on improving air quality, diabetes management, and equal access to education.

“It’s comforting to know so many remarkable students are coming out of our schools – the future is bright,” he concluded.
