Milltown GAA hosting ‘Blue Lights’ road, water and rail safety event

Milltown GAA Club are hosting a ‘Blue Lights’ road, rail, water and fire safety awareness event on Thursday of next week, January 16 (7-9pm).

The event, which is being run as part of the GAA Healthy Club initiative, will feature representatives from An Garda Síochána, Westmeath Fire Service, the Ambulance Service, Civil Defence, and the Road Safety Authority (RSA).

"The object of this event is to create awareness of the importance of road, rail and water safety for the health, safety and wellbeing of all our community and engage members in our community in a conversation of these important topics and in our healthy and inclusive club activities," committee member Paul Heduan told the Westmeath Examiner.

"Emergency first responder vehicles will be on display in the car park of our club grounds. Visitors to the area will be able to have a look at the vehicles up close and have a casual conversation with the various personnel from approximately 6.30pm.

"Inside the main community centre building, we will have a number of different stalls set up for people to take away brochures and other information material with them.

"We will also have a number of guest speakers who will highlight the importance of acting and behaving safely on the road, rail and water."

Mr Heduan says the event is open to individuals and other community and sporting groups in the locality.

"This is a cross community event and everyone is welcome to attend. Raising awareness of road, rail, and water safety is extremely important and hopefully we will get a good crowd on the night."
