Norwegian singer Emmy to represent Ireland at Eurovision 2025

Norwegian singer Emmy has won the Late Late Show Eurosong Special with her track Laika Party, winning the most votes of the six finalists in the public vote.

She qualifies for Ireland because Kilbeggan-based singer-songwriter Larissa Tormey co-wrote the song. The pair met at a songwriting camp in Norway and, along with three other writers, co-wrote it.

after the votes from a national and international jury panel, Emmy entered the final round of public votes tied with Samantha Mumba.

The 24-year-old Norwegian singer-songwriter was born and raised in a family that loves music and began making her songs aged seven.

In 2021, she competed in Norway’s pre-selection for Eurovision, but today she is especially known for singing on TikTok, with a profile with over 1.2 million followers.

She said previously that she met a songwriter from Ireland at a songwriting camp so “it felt natural to submit the song for Ireland.”

Speaking after it was announced she had won, the singer said: "I'm just in shock, thank you so so much. This can't be happening."

The song references Laika, the dog sent into space by the Soviets aboard Sputnik 2 in 1957.

She died of hyperthermia hours into the flight, on the craft's fourth orbit. The song imagines that Laika survives to carry on partying in space.

The 69th Eurovision Song Contest will be held in St. Jakobshalle, Basel, Switzerland. Qualifying semi-finals will take place on the Tuesday and Thursday nights that week.
