Clonmellon protest in support of traffic calming measures
A large crowd turned out for a public rally in Clonmellon this morning, Wednesday, to emphasise the urgent need for traffic calming measures in the village.
Drivers were urged to slow down, adhere to speed limits, and remain mindful of the national school in the centre of the village, on the N52.
The rally follows the presentation of a petition signed by more than 300 residents to the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad on Monday.
Local councillors, Niall Gaffney and David Jones, formally raised the issue at the meeting.
The community call for a traffic survey and speed ramps on the Killalon and Kilskyre roads received the unanimous support of the councillors.
A firm commitment was given that the speed ramps would be provided, and a traffic survey would be carried out in the immediate future.
Speaking after the rally this morning, one local activist said their goal was to ensure that concrete measures were implemented to enhance road safety and protect residents and schoolchildren in Clonmellon.
They are determined to continue advocating for meaningful action and look forward to seeing real progress in the near future.
