Cost of storm damage to council at least €150,000

Storm damage repairs in the Mullingar Kinnegad area cost Westmeath County Council €150,000, and the bill could be more as works are ongoing, members of the Municipal District were told last week. It is hoped, however, that funding will be provided from central government to assist with the cost.

Ukrainians in Kinnegad

Ukrainian people who have been integrated into the Kinnegad community are now being moved ad hoc miles away and are losing their jobs and their places in the school and in the community, complained Cllr Denis Leonard.

Speaking at the February meeting of the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad, he urged that the council write again, as a matter of urgency, to the Department of Integration protesting at this move.

Br Bosco Cup

The success of Coláiste Mhuire Mullingar in winning the Br Bosco Cup final was applauded at the February meeting of the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad.

On the proposal of the mayor, Cllr Ken Glynn, seconded by Cllr Aoife Davitt, it was agreed that the council should write to the school congratulating them on their success, and should give them a formal address of recognition.

Other members joined in congratulating the school and wishing them well in their future endeavours.
