Milltownpass deny Mullingar Shamrocks
Mullingar Shamrocks GAA Notes
ACL Div 2: Milltownpass 2-14, Mullingar Shamrocks 1-15
History almost repeated itself in the closing stages of another Div 2 game on Tuesday evening in Milltownpass when a mid range free was awarded to Shamrocks with the hosts holding a precarious two-point lead. In Killucan Donnacha Maguire’s deft flick proved vital but on this occasion David Martin’s Milltownpass charges held out for a deserved victory. In truth it would have been a victory similar to Liverpool’s over PSG on the previous Tuesday for the Green and Whites having only played to their potential for twenty of the sixty odd minutes. Milltownpass began impressively and dominated the opening half, they established a comfortable lead and seemed certain of taking both points. The new rule enhancements during the National league have shown how previously unassailable leads are anything but and this again was in evidence during the second moiety. The visitors improved upon the resumption and Ross Corroon almost single handedly led the scoring charge and his haul of 12 points was notable for a series of superbly struck two pointers, both from placed balls and from play. The late free dropped in “around the house”caused the home supporters some nervousness but they held out and garnered the league points.
