Kinnegad parking and safety worries
A fear that lorries will end up skidding on the new cobble lock being laid outside the new library in Kinnegad was expressed by Cllr Denis Leonard at the March meeting of the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad.
To avoid that danger, he proposed that the district examine the possibility of installing traffic calming measures in the town at the approach to the primary school and near the new library to align with the new road layout there.
The written response from the council executive stated that its regeneration team are currently constructing a ramped table top at the library and that consideration is being given to upgrade school warning lights.
“If further works are required a new funding source will need to be identified,” the response continued.
Parking
At the same meeting, Cllr Leonard expressed concerns about the ongoing issue of motorists parking for a full day on the streets of Kinnegad, or in car parks owned by businesses in the town.
He asked that the district outline all the options for parking and parking enforcement being considered for Kinnegad, including provision of a park and ride facility.
The response from the district stated that Kinnegad has been added to the schedule for enforcing traffic byelaws on a weekly basis subject to availability. The district will continue to engage with NTA in relation to park and ride,” the response continued, pointing out that for such a facility, a commitment in relation to bus services is required.
