Mullingar Shamrocks will face The Maypole Bar in the Westmeath Darts League final.

Shamrocks and Maypole to meet in league decider

Westmeath Darts League

The Maypole Bar, Collinstown, are chasing a historic league and cup double after securing their place in both Westmeath Darts finals for the first time.

In the league semi-final, Maypole overcame Bagnall’s of Rochfortbridge 10-7 on aggregate. A strong 6-3 away win in the first leg set the tone, with Barry Kiernan, Derek Delaney and Gerry Devro sealing victory late on. At home, key displays from Stephen O’Farrell, Dan Beegan and Paul Radford ensured they got over the line.

Maypole now face Mullingar Shamrocks in the league final. Shamrocks proved too strong for The Wagon Wheel, Ballynacargy, thanks to a dominant 8-1 first-leg win and key contributions from Brandon Gilsenan and Keith Mahon. The tie also saw maximums from Gilsenan and Sylvester Keane.

Earlier this season in the cup, Maypole edged Beechtree, Streamstown 6-5 in a thriller, coming from 5-3 down to win it, with Gerry Devro clinching the deciding leg. They’ll meet Bridge Bar, Mullingar in the final.

Speaking after their latest win, Maypole captain Barry Kiernan hailed the achievement and praised owners Des and Breda McManus for their unwavering support. “Hopefully we can bring some silverware back to the Maypole,” he said. “It would mean the world to everyone involved.”

Mullingar Shamrocks will be very determined to make amends for last year's defeat, however and an intriguing league final lies in store, while the cup final will be interesting also and Matt Cullen's Bridge Bar side will be very keen to win.
