Progress made on dog warden recruitment, council confirms

Three weeks after two dogs were found shot and dumped in a bog at Coole, another dog has been found dead at the same spot, Cllr Alfie Devine revealed to colleagues at the April meeting of the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad.

Cllr Devine was seeking an update from officials on the employment of a dog warden for the district in light of what he described as the recent and growing problem of loose dogs in public open spaces.

The response from the executive stated that the council’s HR department has confirmed that it is at pre-employment stage with a candidate for the dog warden position.

“However, it will realistically be another four weeks before they are in situ.”

An offer for a second dog warden position has also been issued.

Cllr Devine said it would be good to see two dog wardens coming into the area because there have been a lot of problems emerging.
