Ballymore man selected for Olympics
Ballymore rider Joseph Murphy has been named as one of the the team of five to represent Ireland in eventing at the Olympic Games in London in three weeks' time.Joseph, son of Netta and Joe Murphy, was named by Ginny Elliott, Horse Sport Ireland's Eventing high-performance manager as one of the team, who will have two backup riders as well.The eventing competition - in which British Royal, Zara Phillips is also competing - is to take place at Greenwich from July 27 to July 31.Joseph's parents were overwhelmed at the news this morning, Wednesday."We can't believe it," said mum, Netta.Netta and Joe Snr will travel over to London to watch Joe competing.The selection represents a couple of firsts: Joseph is the first Westmeath person to competing in an equestrian event at the Olympics - and the first Ballymore person ever to make it to the Olympics as a participant.
