Kirsta moves onto her third language
Although just in her first days at Gaelscoil an Choilín in Mullingar, little Kirsta Kislina is already fluent in two languages - English and Latvian.By the end of this school year, she"s likely to have more than a 'cúpla focal' as well, as education at the Gaelscoil is all through Irish.'Why not?' is the answer given by mum, Iveta, when asked why the family decided that Kirsta should attend the Gaelscoil.Iveta, who learned English at school herself, believes that as a child, Kirsta will pick up the language easily - and that exposure at a young age to new languages will make it easier for her to learn new ones.'Also there are very good results in this school,' said Iveta, who together with her husband, runs Ziggy Construction in town.Iveta"s own experience, through learning English so early, and finding it therefore easy to gain fluency is why she wants Kirsta to learn Irish. Her elder daughter, Annija, who is attending Presentation School in Mullingar, is already flying at Irish, and Iveta hopes that she herself will be next to start learning, so she can help Kirsta with her homework, and perhaps, over time, baby Patricia will attend there as well.
